open science, open minds

OUR VISION

Our aim is to share the joys of science and make it more accessible to everyone. Science is essential for our understanding of the world and for addressing the challenges we face as a society. Most children do not learn science in their early years of school and lack the means to conduct scientific experiments. We hope to transcend social barriers, offering everyone equal opportunities to enhance their understanding of the world around them. By exploring the fundamentals of science, we promote science as a non-exclusive subject and even hobby, with the ultimate aim of inspiring future scientific careers.

Empowering Kids,

One Experiment at a Time.

About

Not So Serious Science is an organization promoting all aspects of science, including physics, chemistry and biology. Partnered with Branches of Hope Ltd, we provide free science education to refugee children in Hong Kong. Our sessions cover scientific concepts in a fun, memorable and engaging way through hands-on experiments.  Every session is based on a different scientific topic, with a practical experiment to integrate these concepts into modern day life. In the past two years, we have engaged over 120 scientific minds and will continue to spark scientific curiosity in under-privileged children.

Curriculum Development

Our experiments are carefully planned and prepared beforehand, with each lesson featuring a new, unique, fun experiment tailored to our students' interests!

Our classes

Every Saturday, the Not So Serious Science team lead interactive science classes with refugee children in Hong Kong. Each session covers a key scientific concept and a hands-on experiment for the kids to find their footing, finishing off with a quiz to consolidate their knowledge. Past sessions have included making parachutes, growing plants and making elephant toothpaste! â€‹

Science at Home

During the pandemic, the Not So Serious Science team adeptly adapted to the social distancing regulations, transitioning to online lessons for 16 weeks. We devised experiment packages containing all necessary materials, enabling students to conduct hands-on science lessons from the safety and comfort of their homes.

INNOVATION DOES NOT QUARANTINE!!!

Laboratory Coats

Not So Serious Science provides free lab coats to all of our students. Looking like a scientist is very much part of the experience!

Provision of materials

The materials for our experiments are largely reused, taken from our own homes or kindly donated by classmates. We make an effort to recycle all materials for use in future sessions, such as plastic bottles and glass jars etc., valuing sustainability in all our endeavours.
